About the Virtual Museum of Architecture
The Virtual Museum of Architecture Ottawa is an online collection of exhibits that examines aspects of the built environment of Ottawa and its surrounding communities. It is filled with stories of how our buildings came to be, the people who built and used them, and the impact they had on their societies over time.
The content is entirely generated by undergraduate students in Carleton University’s History & Theory of Architecture program. The exhibits grow from these students’ experience of doing original research with primary (archival) documents, as well as their engagement with the work of other historians, scholars, and researchers in the field.
VMAO benefits from the technical support of the School for Studies in Art & Culture’s Audio-Visual Resource Centre and is co-supervised by faculty advisors Peter Coffman and Michael Windover. The project has received financial support from the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the I-CUREUS (Internship-Carleton University Research Experience for Undergraduate Students), and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
