Description

Rideau Hall is the official residence of the Monarch and the Governor General of Canada. It was originally built in 1838 as an estate for the MacKay family in which they lived in until 1868 when the Government of Canada purchased the home with the intent of its purpose today. In 1977, it was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada for its importance to Canadian political history.
