Description

The Chateau Laurier is located downtown and overlooks the Rideau Canal locks, the Ottawa River and Major's Hill Park.  The hotel consists of 429 guest rooms, a main dining room, an Empire style ballroom, a Wedgewood- blue Adam Room and the drawing room. The hotel was designated a national historic site in 1980. It was commissioned by Grand Trunk Railway between 1909 and 1912 and was connected by underground tunnels to the late downtown union station across the street.  In 1923, the grand Trunk Railway became part of the Canadian National Railway and became one of CN's most important hotels.
