Description

The Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library is located in downtown Ottawa on the corner of Metcalfe Street and Laurier Avenue West. The current building replaced the original library, the Carnegie Library, which stood in the same space. Although none of the Carnegie Library stands today, the original stained glass window has been preserved and is now located in the main hall of the library visible to anyone who enters. The current building contrasts its original which follows a Neoclassical design with a more modern Brutalist style for its time.
